There’s a beautiful place to escape to surrounded by sparkling turquoise waters and miles of white-sand beaches. A place filled with mysterious and historic landmarks and some of the most diverse marine life in the world.
The best part, this place is right under your nose!
WHERE IS IT?
Situated only 50 miles from Miami lies the beautiful and westernmost islands of the Bahamas—a chain of islands that go by the name of Bimini. Bimini is the closest Bahamian island to the United States. You should also know that there are three islands that make up Bimini: North Bimini, South Bimini, and East Bimini. North Bimini is a bit livelier, while South Bimini is more of a quiet escape.
WHERE SHOULD I STAY?
Some of the most popular places to stay are: The Hilton at Resorts World Bimini, Big John’s Hotel, Bimini Sands Resort & Marina, Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina, and the Resorts World Bimini Resort, Casino, and Marina. The Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina dates back to 1947 and is a favorite for those who enjoy fishing. It’s also popular among international yacht-owners making their way around the Caribbean. The award-winning Hilton at Resorts World Bimini Resort is full of luxury and elegance. Depending on the type of escape you are looking for and the activities you want to partake in, you’re sure to find a perfect match at one of the previously mentioned places.
HOW DO I GET AROUND?
Due to the small nature of the island chain, cars are not a typical form of transportation on Bimini. You won’t see many around on the island. Never fear though! You can get around the island by taxi, golf cart, bicycle, or shuttle. Shuttles mostly run on “island time” so they aren’t recommended if you are on a tight schedule or have an itinerary planned. The best way to get around is by renting a golf cart or bicycle. It is advised to rent these first thing in the morning, otherwise they may be sold out later on in the day.
WHAT CAN I DO THERE?
In addition to relaxing and taking in breathtaking views, there are plenty of activities you can take part in on the Bimini Islands.
One of the most important is of course the food! Enjoy a delicious conch salad at Stuart’s Conch Stand – nobody does it better and it’s a great place to interact with the locals. If you’re looking for a more upscale experience, Bimini Bay Resort’s Sabor restaurant is your spot. You can decide from different seafood entrees and enjoy a peaceful waterfront dining experience.
On Bimini, there are no shortage of water experiences to choose from. You can swim with Hammerhead sharks or enjoy a day at the spa. Explore and exercise by renting a paddleboard or a kayak from Bimini Water Sports. For a thrilling and unique experience, visit Bimini Bull Run where you can descend into the water inside a cage and come face to face with a bull shark. Experience a shipwreck up close and personal by taking a snorkeling or diving trip with Dive Bimini. There’s so much to choose from! Although the islands may be small, they are filled with activities and experiences.
