Summer is practically here and the kids are out of school. It’s time to start thinking of taking that vacation to Grand Bahama Island you’ve been dreaming about. Grand Bahama Island is full of activities to enjoy and sights to see. Here are some things you can do on the island this summer:
Gold Rock Beach
One of the prettiest beaches on the island. So pretty in fact, that many of the scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest were filmed here. If you love beaches, this is a must-visit destination. Prepare in advance by bringing chairs and food if you plan on spending the day there. This beach does not provide food or chair services. Keep in mind, you won’t be able to do much swimming during low tide. Finally, prepare to be blown away by its breathtaking views.
Scuba Diving & Snorkeling
With beautiful turquoise waters and unique coral formations around the island, Grand Bahama is a prime location for snorkeling and scuba diving. There are plenty of guided tours available on the island, Pat & Diane’s Snorkeling being one of the most popular tours. Transportation and gear is normally included in the price of the tour, but be sure to ask. This island is often referred to as a diver’s paradise. Get ready to explore the vivid colors of this underwater world, and perhaps even run into a playful dolphin!
Lucayan National Park
Lucayan National Park is the most popular park on the island. This 40-acre park, established in 1982, is the only place visitors can see all of the island’s 6 ecosystems in one spot. Among the vegetation you’ll find here are mangroves, pine trees, and rare flowers. The island is best known for its underwater caves – an extensive network of tunnels. Tours are available to explore these caves. Gold Rock Beach is part of the national park too!
For all those of the legal drinking age, this is a must, especially if you love beer. This 20-acre brewery opened in 2007 and is a 100% Bahamian-owned business. Inside, you’ll find the brewery with tours available, a retail store, souvenir store, and a beer garden for visitors to enjoy!
Don’t let the turquoise waters go to waste. There are so many activities to do on the water. Most resorts offer jet-ski rentals and tours. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, try the water-skiing or a banana boat rental. If you just want to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding you, rent a paddleboard or a kayak. Some other water activities you can enjoy on the island are sailing, boating, parasailing, and wind surfing.
