Do I need a passport to travel to the Bahamas?
U.S. citizens who travel abroad need a passport when leaving and re-entering the country. The passport not only identifies the bearer but also shows that he is an American citizen. Processing usually takes at least four-to-six weeks for regular service or two-to-three weeks for expedited service. Travelers in Florida who require their passports sooner must apply for their passports in person.
